Socrates' "autobiography" in the Phaedo contains Plato's longest and most well-known examination of Anaxagoras (96a) (The Last Hours of Socrates, 2008). Socrates reveals in the text that when he was young, he was interested in natural sciences and engaged himself with using slightly antiquated language, studying the reasons to explain how and why certain things are the way they are. Dissatisfied with the sufficiency of the explanations, Socrates overheard someone reading out from an Anaxagoras book, who argued that Nous ordered as well as was accountable for everything (97c) (The Last Hours of Socrates, 2008).
